Progressive muscular relaxation is a technique taught to reach a deep state of relaxation First you tense a muscle and hold it for a few seconds then release that tension to bring a deep sense of relaxation. Controlled breathing exercises also promote relaxation. In visualisation a therapist guides you to find pictures in your mind that are peaceful and healing to you.
Benefits

Regular attendance at relaxation can produce a feeling of calmness that can increase individual well being over a period of time. It can also improve sleeping problems.
